Hoarders and Truckers

I went on a brief walking tour of part of my neighborhood this morning. It was a beautiful morning, and there were things that I wanted to photograph.

First up – the long haul trucker we have in my neighborhood. He’s certainly had some interesting loads over the years – as examples, huge spools of giant cables, and a livestock carrier. That one gave me a touch of nostalgia, as the smell reminded me of the first ten+ years of my life spent on a family dairy farm in New England. It reminded everyone else of, well, cow shit.

This load is … rocky!

And now, the real motivation for this little tour. There’s a place nearby that some of us have taken to calling, simply The Hoarders, and you will see why. It’s a long story, but the place was long since condemned. But someone, or some group of people, kept going there anyway. They tore down the big yellow signs and just carried on. But just within the last week, there was police activity there, with APD having been called to the scene to make sure it was vacant and (relatively?) safe for city workers to do their thing there. They boarded up the house, replaced all the signs, and towed away at least two derelict vehicles.

I spoke to one city worker, who told me that the police and city were asking neighbors to call the non-emergency police number if anyone went in the place. I had a brief encounter with two rather thuggish fellows who demanded that I not photograph their vehicle. No, that’s not suspicious at all! They left, apparently without attempting entry. But anyway…

There’s so much stuff in the back yard there, that it’s hare to capture without entering the property, which I did not. Here are a few of the pictures I took there, through gates or over walls.
